If I book EK F With Alaska points to Amman, but the first leg to DXB is only available in J, DXB to Amman is F. If F availability frees up before my flight, do I get to upgrade free to F?

What do you mean by "free", without any miles?

Shouldn't this be a "Plan B" type of priority, if F space frees up, if he booked F Award Fee but is getting J on the first leg because of lack of availability at the moment?

I would think so. Why don't you book it all in J and pay J. If F opens, then switch.

Is Emirates known to release F award availability closer to a flight? Flight is in early February, 9/14 seats are empty

As per Alaska air if I book F but there is only J available then once F opens up I can call in and be put in to F with no cost, but if I book with J and have to upgrade to F it will cost $125+extra miles to upgrade.
