I hate to break this to you, but you won't find a source for your position either (aside from the other mareh mekomos from the footnote I quoted). You seem to realize this by your wording - all implications of halacha are the other way. It's called a stimas haposkim.

Again, if you hold unused items can still require shaimos - that's fine, and of course you don't need to talk to a Rov unless you want to go l'kulah. I myself am noheg to put such items in shaimos. But to talk down to those who do rely on this kula, as if you know everything there is to know on the subject, that's not cool. Especially since there is a source, as much as you'd like to look down your nose at it.

I think there may be a difference if it contains actual sheimos of hashem or merely torah

Halacha is shulchan aruch. Shulchan Aruch says that all printed such printed material with psukim or Hashem's name, must go into genizah.
I don't get your point; this is not an implication, this is pashtus. If you want to come along and make a differentiation in the halacha which the shu"a does not make, to make such a brazen move, you must have solid solid proof.

I'm coming in late to this and with little research, but if I recall correctly, most printed books today have 2 'yud's' instead of H's name for this very reason.

2 exceptions I'm aware of is the tikun, and the shai lamoira Chumash. In the latter, you'll notice that the right leg of the second hey is detached from its roof whenever it appears on H's name.
