Some hold that if you never used it yet you could toss it. It's good to know for all the seforim & booklets that come in the mail.
Name me one major source please.
Yes. Ask your LOR
please ask whatever Rov you use
B"H we have Shu"a, achronim, poskim, and many compilations of them. LOR's are for when something is not clear (aka a safek).
I know what it says clearly in halakha. Mr Tim comes along with a chidush (or as some may call it: a myth), I don't see any valid reason to consult a Rav.

Yaakov, Rov means a majority, perhaps you meant a "Rav"...
(unless you speak Yiddish/Yinglish ;))

How about the Steipler, for one.

Would it really have been that hard to Google it? I searched "shaimos never used" and this quote was in the first result:
Quote
A sefer that was never used may be placed in shaimos because it does not have kedusha.74
Quote
74Letters of the Chofetz Chaim 83, see Chelkes Yaakov O.C. 40 who discusses this question as it applied after the Holocaust. Others say no shaimos is required (Orchos Rabbeinu 1:page 201:21).

B"H we have Shu"a, achronim, poskim, and many compilations of them. LOR's are for when something is not clear (aka a safek).

I'm not saying you should consult your Rov (clearly meaning Rabbi because it's capitalized) just because someone on a forum said a possible kulah, but don't disparage it like it's impossible to be a valid kulah because you've learned the relevant siman in Shulchan Aruch - especially when you're actually mistaken.

For those who are makpid.........
  • This is the first Orthodox siddur to be endorsed by the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance (JOFA). Prayers are included for the birth of a daughter, for women to recite, after birth, when they return to synagogue; has prayers for women to constitute a quorum for grace after meals; prayers said traditionally only with male grammar ("Modeh Ani") now have feminine and masculine options.

Sorry, just caught up  with your response. I still only see one source. And a source it barely is. To base a halacha on one sigular shmu'ah of a story, when all implications of the halacha are the other way?!

I hate to break this to you, but you won't find a source for your position either (aside from the other mareh mekomos from the footnote I quoted). You seem to realize this by your wording - all implications of halacha are the other way. It's called a stimas haposkim.

Again, if you hold unused items can still require shaimos - that's fine, and of course you don't need to talk to a Rov unless you want to go l'kulah. I myself am noheg to put such items in shaimos. But to talk down to those who do rely on this kula, as if you know everything there is to know on the subject, that's not cool. Especially since there is a source, as much as you'd like to look down your nose at it.
