Good way to search for the YQ/YR cost is:

For the way home from TLV you might want to book via LH/M&M for 52k + YQ (with an Israeli country notated on the M&M acct)

Maybe its better for him to book via BA for 7,500 & then 30k AA. But then maybe not if the first flight gets something like delayed or cancelled etc

Prob. With checking YQ is where partners charge YQ when the carrier doesn't, (like BA charging on AA on NYC-LHR route), didn't know if TK is the one charging it or SQ.

ITA gives you a nice breakdown of the ticket cost.
UA/AC doesnt charge for TK for example.. The YQ/YR is still there, they just dont charge it.
It always gos off the airline that is ticketing the ticket

Definitely not worth it, by doing so you'll be forced to pay the high LHR taxes.
