With this post. http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/85765 half the questions here are answered. Great job Dan.

He forgot to mention that on some routes, when using Iberia , it pays to book round trip because they charge total miles

He says that dozens of times by displaying IB as the cheapest rt option

I know ANA is cheapest for economy @ 60k RT and I thinks it's cheapest for j to Israel as well, hopefully others can tell you the exact miles.

Family member asked me about getting cheaper tickets for their daughter going to seminary next year. September-June. I thought offhand that the flight offered by the seminary (1839 rt nonstop) is probably their best bet, as they're not interested in any stopovers (teenager flying alone, and for the first time), but can anyone point me in the right direction to help them get something cheaper, or something worthwhile with mileage? Thanks

Did you do a basic search on ITA or an OTA for those dates?

Yes and I'm seeing only extremely expensive flights for one way, and can't search a round trip that ends in June

In the past I got AC with some decent one way fares, maybe they won't mind stopping in Canada.

Good point, I didn't even think of that for some reason. Gotta look into that

Why on Iberia do I see availability for award flights, but AA phone rep can't see it? They don't make it available to partners?

Try rt and drop the return, sometimes 2 rt can be cheaper then 1 long stay, But would prob have to be a connection.

I have never heard that IB has fewer award seats available to partners, but its possible.
If its a business award I can check expertflyer for you.
Otherwise call IB and see if it really exists or maybe its phantom.
If IB says it exists you can try getting AA to Long Sell it for you.

(one world search tips)

Why not also look to get a United or Singapore one way ticket?

Best way to book UA to HNL, both Y and J?

If booking via UA, can I tack on long-term stopover/third leg?

SQ is best miles but doesn't allow stopovers in one way and also don't allow your origination city as a stopovers. You need to call to double check and if booked on UA can possibly get the third leg you want.
