hi!

pardon me if i'm posting to the wrong thread.

i have a chase sapphire card and as the UR points can be used towards booking travel at 1.5 cents per mile, I want to use this option now. however, i'm doing a flight search for a specific flight, and the chase travel booking site tells me how many points are needed, AND how much it would actually cost if i was paying with cash. the cash amount they want is $100 more than it would be if i was booking directly on the airline's site. It's showing as $282 for purchase, and 18,806 points if i want to purchase with points.

Can anyone explain why?

thanks
If the flight is $182 on airline site, call Chase up.

that worked - they will honor the fare of the airline, translated into points.
so i'm getting value of 1.5 cents per point - i imagine that's as good as i will get - correct?

You can get better value transferring directly to airlines but if you need a specific flight that doesn't have saved award space then that's the best you're going to get unless you have an amex biz plat.

Just a quick dp - I went to book a rental car 2 months out. I went on the chase travel portal about 1:45 and was seeing rates less than half of what priceline/others were showing so I went to book. I didn't realize you have to use a chase cc to book so i got logged out by the time i got off the phone with them (I didn't book on phone bec the booking is for someone else and I needed to find out how he wanted to proceed - he had given me an AMEX). Came back to book after 2 pm, rates shot up - not as much as priceline/others, but enough to tick me off.

Makes me wonder what goes on behind the scenes of that portal...

Revenue is almost for sure going to be the way to go, MR to matmid is a horrible redemption.

Revenue can be under $500, depending on date. Much better than 40k MR plus taxes leaving UK, IMO.
