HNL - LIH
Should I book for 6k UA and pay for baggage or should I go through Dan's corporate account? Tickets (for the flight UA offers) retail now for $83.
One advantage of going through Dan's account is that I can take an earlier flight that UA doesn't offer, but that flight costs $154.

Edit: I just realized that I can book for 5k AA as well, but only the later flight. Does this change anything?
I don't think that award seats will open up for the earlier flight, as there are only 10 seats left.
Even with 1 checked bag PP you'd get a better value with revenue tickets.

6,000 X .0125 (personally, I think it's worth more) = $75
+$5.60
+$25 - 1'st checked bag
=$105.60

Vs.

$83 - Ticket
+$6 - Booking fee
=$89

And you get the added benefit that you can standby for the earlier flight.

However, all of that is only valid if it's your own miles

Yup, just thought it through. My only benefit of paying full fare is that I can take the earlier flight (1 hour difference), not worth $300 for me.

Now the question is if I should go with AA or UA. My flight to HNL is with UA, but they will anyways not be on one PNR because they are booked separately.
Is there any benefit of using UA over AA? I would rather use AA.

Opps thanks for reminding me that I still have someone else's miles to use! That answers the question.
As always, thanks Joe!  :)

I'm confused. My conclusion was that you'd be better off paying cash. How did you suddenly decide to use miles?

Also, by buying rev tickets you'll be able to stand by for the earlier flight which I believe is free with Dan's corp account. Not sure where you got to $300.

This is irrelevant now since I'm using miles. But you are right, I misread it.
But in any case, if I use cash I would book the earlier flight and not wait on standby since this flight is really full. So it would be $150 + $6 booking fee.

If you have AA card I believe it's 1 bag free for everyone on itin domestic
So aa>ua
