AA doesn't have any sort of Plan B workaround does it? Seats open but only coach seats available with points.  Any ideas?
If you need to go regardless, book Y and keep on checking. If J opens you just call in and add the miles.

Is that the only option?

AFAIK (unless you want to buy a revenue Y ticket and upgrade with miles).

Make sure there are seats available in C class (Business Upgrade) before you try this. You can check that availability through Expert Flyer.

TLV-WAS around pesach time in Y, am finding OS through UA 85K plus $108
KLM on FB 50k plus $225
BA paid for $750

The UA doesnt make sense for me, and I'd rather use miles but not sure in this case since the ticket is cheap. Is it possible to do any better than the FB?

I have booked so far ORD-HKG in CX J, and MEL-AUH EY F.
CX flight is with AS so totally cancellable, and EY is with AA so can change dates/times for free. So lots of flexibility.

HKG-SYD apparently has horrible availability, nothing on my dates or even close, but anyway it seems hit and miss with good reverse herringbone J vs old yucky J... HKG-ADL has availability AND has good J, but only 1 flight per day. Still waiting to decide if it's worth liquidating my last 12K SPG to AS to do this flight (I have 8K now) or figure out something else... Will probably just do the SPG route.

What's best way to get from HKG-SYD on Cathay? Anyone have any experience with J availability trends?

Last minute can be wide open often. End of school holiday times can be difficult.

$730 sounds good.
