Looking for yyz-hkg or to bkk on 1/26 returning 2/1. How long before can I expect (or hope) for cx to open up j?

24 hours out they usually open everything except 1 seat.

Yep.

So if he sees paid fares on BA site for the flights he wants then 24 hours out he should be able to book with points?  Do most airlines do this?

No. He needs to check if award travel has become available. But yes, he can check OTA sites or EF to see how many seats are still available on a given flight to gauge what might become available <24 hours.

What is the cheapest way to book Den-MLE with a stopover in TLV.  United would let me do it in Y for 100k. SQ said only 75k (which sounded too low to the Maldives) for 75k but could only stopover in IST not TLV so I'd have to buy that last leg.  I know ANA is cheapest to TlV directly and only RT.  Was also thinking maybe it would be cheaper to book as separate tickets.  I have both UR and MR.  Also what would be the best deal in J?

What's the best points option for USM-HKG in Y? Traveling with a lap child so ideally want to avoid insane taxes/YQ.

probably about a week.  I could book as a RT to DEN-MLE with just a stopover unless you guys though one ways made more sense, something like: Den-TLV, TLV-MLE (I think TA via Istanbul is the best), and MLE-DEN all as separate segments but that seemed more expensive (I've checked and unless I want to add another stopover destination for the trip, the shortest way for the last leg is definitely, MLE-SIN-NRT-DEN b/c there is a direct NRT-DEN flight).
