Anything over 24 hours total is two award tickets?
Over 24 hour connection, yes.

But the issue with MLE is in AA's routing rules that don't allow routing via a 3'rd region (i.e. NA>ME>Asia).

24 hour connection or 24 hours total travel time?

You can't have any single connection that is longer than 24 hrs, total travel time can be as long as you want, assuming you follow all the routing rules.

Sorry for the n00b questions. So even when I can pull up JFK>AUH>MEL on Etihad on one award when I call AA I will be charged two award tickets?

Correct, but that's because, for the most part, AA doesn't let you route through a second region en route to a third.

Is there a way to search more than one day at a time?

You can search for the whole week. Just look at the mileage amounts requesting on the tabs for each day, and you can figure out if its "guest" fare for that day.

(Only works if ticket is for one leg I.E JFK-AUH. Not JFK-AUH-MEL)

Wow, for someone really knowledgeable, you really are a n00b :)

When are you looking for? Of course AA can price MLE on an award.

Probably June/July. I clicked through every week for the year JFK/MLE and found one day with one seat available. Any other cities I can check for F?

IAD has F but not the A380, it's the 787.

Search JFK-AUH by itself.

You're probably looking to late for June/July availablity. I recently booked MLE-AUH-JFK-LAX through AA. I booked as soon as availability opened up around 300+ days. MLE-AUH has no F, so you need to find that in J. AUH-JFK F opens up later than J. Then you have to find a competent agent in australia/singapore/trindad whatever not US AA office to be able to book it all for you.

The calendar goes to 9/12. When they add dates that is the best time to check? Any way to know when they add dates?

EY does in fact seasonally offer F on AUH<>MLE. I'm booked on it.

Oh nice. Didn't notice that on the time period I was looking. Either way I think you still want to search for the legs separately. If its not finding any F at all then it means no F in that date.

Search JFK-AUH by itself.

My experience has been that its easier to find F availability on the MLE-AUH-JFK routing than the reverse... not sure why though...

It's always been that way, for some reason, EY shows way more on AUH-JFK than the reverse.
