I stayed at the renaissance in palm springs Last August I don't remember it being that bad although I was on a road trip originating in Phoenix which was about 105-115 but I would take that kind if dry heat over a lot of soupy NYC days

it was nice, resorty its gonna be pretty empty so even though the pool is the main activity there (the hotel is like a U around it) you will probably have it to yourself most of the time, the bar is pretty nice it is in the back of the lobby and goes out to the pool area there, there are a bunch of ballrooms i think they have like dance classes in the winter when its fuller
i didnt do anything besides sleep there but i think there is atv'ing around there

Houses are dirt cheap in PS, especially this time of year, and they are fantastic!

Without a doubt.
It just depends how much you value having a full kitchen, private pool/hot tub with a walled in backyard, a pool table, etc, etc.

if it was a family affair or holiday rental, i'd go w/ the full house but for a quick trip the renassaince should do the job...good thing is that there is a coffee bean or two and they started serving more food items so at least there will be a normal breakfast.
