There's also a house that is only rented to Heimish people, located approx 0.7 miles from Chabad of Rancho Mirage (http://www.kosher-oasis.com).
The Westin is walking distance, as is the Marriott Shadow Ridge (to ChabadRM.com)...
Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, is also somewhat walking distance (http://www.hotwatercasino.com/)

Silly to stay in a hotel in PS, IMHO.

Tons of great houses with private pools walkable to Chabad in Twin Palms and Deepwell on the cheap.

I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles and palm spring. Will be flying to and for lax. Just debating where to spend Shabbis. Id prefer an area that's more scenic w/ nice parks to visit Shabbis afternoon etc. does the Chabad area in palm spring fit the bill or would Los Angeles are be better. Somehow I'm getting the feel that palm spring is sort of like a/c...

Are the casinos a big part of the place? Is it weird to be there on Shabbis?

Palm Springs is beautiful. Just bring in food from LA. Rent a house via VRBO in the Twin Palms or Deepwell areas and it will be walkable to Chabad.

It's actually been discussed a few times on this thread I think renting a Vila or a couple just for the weekend is waaaay more expensive than a hotel room..
I don't know how the math adds up otherwise

That's like saying steak is more expensive than pizza

So spend $700 for 3 nights in a small hotel room very far from shul or spend $1,000 for 3 nights in a large house just a few minutes from shul with a private walled in pool and hot tub.
Which part isn't adding up for you?

A more accurate analogy is a slice of pizza compared to a steak platter enough for 6-8 people.
I haven't seen that many 1 bedroom private villas With a private pool under 250-300 $ plus cleaning fee.
Most 1 bedrooms were condo w a community pool. For that I can go with SPg or Hyatt and get diamond upgrade to a suite... Of course get nights paid w points..
Am I missing something here?

Yes. It's a totally different experience. If you just can't afford it that's one thing. But to say it's comparable when you haven't done it is ludicrous. And yes you may have extra bedrooms. Who cares?
Plus being close to shul

During the winters, the Chabad of Rancho Mirage, about 15 minutes from Palm Springs has a very nice BBQ for purchase every Tuesday night.
http://www.chabadrm.com/               See the event schedule on their website.
I may be going next week, not 100% as we only get to PSP around 1PM, with two little kids...

I'd assume so if done through a travel site. You can also look up how Visa/MC code different sites.
