No lessons, just lots and lots of reading, watching, and practice.

ROR seems like a photography mecca. The Hopper OTOH... I'd love to do it for the sheer craziness, but I didn't get the impression that it was very interesting photographically.

Maybe the rest of your TR will prove me wrong.

First off, i don't think i'm even going to look at the pictures we took, and will just take yours.

Second, i found that when you got behind someone on a one-lane drag, just speed along right behind them for fear of having to reverse for oncoming traffic. Almost to gain as much ground as you can before the almost inevitable happens.

What fun is there in driving these roads if you're constantly in fear of meeting oncoming traffic? I'd often slow down long enough for the guy in front of me to get our of sight before I moved on, just so it could be a more relaxed experience.

I don't even know if your plan would work. Suppose you're behind a guy and you both meet oncoming traffic? The accepted practice in Hawaii is for the guy going uphill to reverse. In such a case, you'd both have to reverse...

Also,the only place where there is a real risk of having to back down a mountain is on the west side. On the RTH - both halves - even the one-way stretches have pullouts literally every couple of feet. This means that you'd be able to continue driving at him and still have a chance to pull into the side in time.

Pretty much. 752 F to LAX, lie-flat 763 J to JFK. Tiny footwells and terrible KSML, the works .

Second, I bought the same suction mount for my go pro and I thought they said it mounts to any smooth flat surface-I tried mounting it to the plastic flat surface above the center dashboard and it just would not stick-have you ever heard that it does not stick to plastic or am I doing something wrong??

Yea, was really only the west side where there are some rough stretches. Truthfully, we barely saw any cars and only had an issue after turning around by the construction. We (about six cars) actually had to reverse backup the mountan at one point, but wasn't too bad.

Dashboards generally have a slight texture to them. I haven't seen this suction cup work on any yet.

When I keep it inside, I put it on the windshield.

Wow, Mr. Fishy. Thank you so much! I think something that goes unnoticed is your knowledge. Not only can you grab these amazing photos, you always always know what you're looking at. Your research into the locations you visit shows through in your TRs. I can't wait to go, but I will most likely just be ogling and hoping for a few awesome photos and not capturing basically the entire island in pictures/GIFs.

I wish I had a gopro now for my Hana trip, Corvette going 90mph on the road after Hana would probably make some neat videos

I ended up putting it on the windshield but it took me like 20 minutes to switch around all the pieces until I got it to be at the right angle, etc. (and even still you always see a tiny drop of the suction.....)
