I'd often slow down long enough for the guy in front of me to get our of sight before I moved on, just so it could be a more relaxed experience.
+1
I do that all the time on scenic drives.

Suction-cupped on the left side-view mirror:

Firstly-Thanks for an awesome tr-cant wait get there one day!!! Second, I bought the same suction mount for my go pro and I thought they said it mounts to any smooth flat surface-I tried mounting it to the plastic flat surface above the center dashboard and it just would not stick-have you ever heard that it does not stick to plastic or am I doing something wrong??

ALOL

No excuses  ;)

What fun is there in driving these roads if you're constantly in fear of meeting oncoming traffic? I'd often slow down long enough for the guy in front of me to get our of sight before I moved on, just so it could be a more relaxed experience.

I don't even know if your plan would work. Suppose you're behind a guy and you both meet oncoming traffic? The accepted practice in Hawaii is for the guy going uphill to reverse. In such a case, you'd both have to reverse...

Also, the only place where there is a real risk of having to back down a mountain is on the west side. On the RTH - both halves - even the one-way stretches have pullouts literally every couple of feet. This means that you'd be able to continue driving at him and still have a chance to pull into the side in time.
Yea, was really only the west side where there are some rough stretches. Truthfully, we barely saw any cars and only had an issue after turning around by the construction. We (about six cars) actually had to reverse backup the mountan at one point, but wasn't too bad.
Quaerite et Invenietis.

Dashboards generally have a slight texture to them. I haven't seen this suction cup work on any yet.

When I keep it inside, I put it on the windshield.

Wow, Mr. Fishy. Thank you so much! I think something that goes unnoticed is your knowledge. Not only can you grab these amazing photos, you always always know what you're looking at. Your research into the locations you visit shows through in your TRs. I can't wait to go, but I will most likely just be ogling and hoping for a few awesome photos and not capturing basically the entire island in pictures/GIFs. :)

Unreal TR, this should go MS IMO.

I wish I had a gopro now for my Hana trip, Corvette going 90mph on the road after Hana would probably make some neat videos :)

Thanks for all the time you put into this truly amazing!

I ended up putting it on the windshield but it took me like 20 minutes to switch around all the pieces until I got it to be at the right angle, etc. (and even still you always see a tiny drop of the suction.....)

Yes, as long as you know what to look for before you come. Check out Google Earth (see my screenshot) beforehand and you'll see it's quite clear. Remember though that you'll have to find the trailhead in the dark.

So from the google earth pic it looks like the The Pa Ka Oao trail will lead me to WhiteHill, is that correct?

Now that I've written a 10-part trip report, it's only fitting that I pay tribute to the giants who came before me. So in honor of the great inventor of splitting a TR into a Million Mediocre Sections, I present the final piece of my saga:

Conclusion and Blog GiveawayTM:

<Template 186>

My wife and I used our points and miles to plan a trip to Maui! We also used a price mistake!

We had heard that Maui rivals the beauty and splendor of Staten Island, so we planned a trip to decide for ourselves!

We went to Maui and also to Lanai! Using our points and miles made it even better!

Maui is very pretty!

Maui and Lanai Trip Report Index:

The highlight of our trip to Maui was seeing and doing all the things! Also Lanai!

We went to the beach. It was nice. The water was warm, but not warmer than you would expect. Also not colder than you would expect. There were lots of rocks.

The beach was nice! There were lots of rocks.

We also saw the sunrise from the top of a mountain. It was nice. It was also cold. There were lots of rocks.

Sunrise was nice! There were lots of rocks.

When we fly to Maui, we make sure to use our Companion Pass! That way dead fish could fly for free! (~$10 tax & fees).

The fish came to the beach for free using our Companion Pass! There were lots of rocks.

Now to the fun part - let's give away some rocks!!!

Rock 1:
  • A piece of coral from La Perouse Bay!

Rock 2:
