Anyone does this yet to get the free companion ticket? Or actually used the certificate itself?

Good for redeeming on First Class on BA. Still cost you a boatload in taxes but not a bad way to redeem for 2 RT flights on BA.

Why is it worthless?

Because you still pay taxes. Most of the cost of a BA flight is taxes. What you're saving is minimal.

For non-economy it would be worth more, true

Is it better to just collect avios then?

!?!
I was pushing to spend the $30k until I found out that the taxes on NYC-TLV is around $750 (economy) -$850 (business) in winter.  (approximate)  If I am going to spend $30k on a card I assume it is better to spend it on a 5x CC and not a 1.25x CC.

I can't imagine the difference in avios vs UR would make up that difference.

That is precisely why I asked this question regarding the Target pre-paid card. I have 3 cards. I can hypothetically spend 30 k in 3 months on the 3 cards. Is it worth it or just get the bonus and move on?

If you have a trip you know you want to take on BA, it can be worth it. Otherwise, spend it on a different card.

This is one of the best ways to get to TLV in F with an infant.

200k BA plus $2k.

Yes, but depends where you want to fly.

American in the US and South America, Aer Lingus and Air Berlin (among others) have no fuel surcharges, and are therefore great deals with Avios.

To fly British is expensive, unless it's a flight that doesn't involve London (very few of those)

If you have 3 cards shouldn't it only take you 2 months?

But the free companion ticket only works on BA metal
