I could have sworn I learned as a kid that Jews can't go onto the Har Habayis these days because we're Tamei (even after going to a Mikvah). Was I taught wrong? (Not surprising if I was, I've found more than 1 thing I was mistaught in elementary school since I've left.)

Everyone agrees you can go into Har Habeis
Everyone agree you cannot go into the Azara.

The question is if you can rely on the various shitos about where is the Har Habais and not the Azara. Part of the question is hashkaficaly if there is enough of a reason to go there to get into the safek.

We do not know where the har habayis borders are... Whatever you see today means nothing.
Todays mikvah doesnt fix the issue why we are not allowed to enter that area.
If someone wants to go close to the har habayis to pray & risk one of the more stringent rules in the torah then so be it but it comes with a very heavy price.
Hashem accepts tefilos wherever you are. not one tefila gos unheard

Maran stated everything possible must be done to avoid a religious war, and the provocateurs are playing with fire.

Maran is quoted as explaining to the president that Halacha forbids going onto Har Habayis but today, it is more than this, it is an act that may lead to a religious war and bloodshed.
