There was a series of robberies in the frum community last year and it ended with a member of the shul threatening with their gun.  It helps!
Worse thing you can do. Never pull out a gun unless you intend to use it and don't put it away until you are done.
I just found a new supply of forks!

That would depend on the race relations in that particular community.

In NYC they put empty police cars in front of the shuls. Like that's really gonna help

That has nothing to do with it.

This is rule #1 of CCW.  Waving it at someone who's robbing you has to be the dumbest thing to do and the best way to get killed or arrested. It's people who do that that make me fear all the cowboys in shul carrying.

Are you packing an AR?
Why does anyone need to know that you're packing?

It's against the law where I live unless the shul board specifically allows it.

Not naive but grown accustomed to relying on others to protect you.

I know at least one guy in my shul who carries. I'm safer because of that, so I'm happy.
Security guards are great, but if someone slips past ours it's good to know we have someone packing heat on the inside as well.
Security guards are great as a first line of defense but they are the obvious first targets.

If a shul has prominent, armed security, I think any antagonist will go to another shul down the block.

If C'V, you ever need to use it, the law will be the last of your concerns....

What if that shul is the only shul on the block? What if the other shul also has prominent, armed security?
Point is, if there is a planned attack, those guys will be the first targets.

IMO that's the only point of a security guard. He's a deterrent meant only to harden the target.
Truth is, if any terrorist or terrorist group truly wanted to carry out an attack, figuring out out to take out the guard or slip past him unnoticed would not be all that difficult. At that point, we can only rely on Hashem's protection.

Using a gun to threaten someone is a very bad idea.
1 - What if he calls your bluff? Are you willing to shoot what appears to be an unarmed man?
2 - What if he was a gun and you don't know it? You are most likely the one going to be shot.

Legally once u pull out your gun you're supposed to be in serious danger and shoot to kill. Otherwise you're on the hook.

Just because you may be legally justified for pulling out a gun, doesn't mean you need to shoot it.  ???
If you do shoot it, just make you are the last one standing and the other guy isn't around to refute your side of the story.
