Topic Wiki

This Thread is for people interested in splitting the $50 register rental for The Gift Card Registry.
Info: The Gift Card Registry (GCR) is a business in Lakewood that sells GC's that are accepted in many stores across town.See list
Here
In anticipation of the high volume of people/cards/swipes expected for SBS GCR is allowing individuals/groups to rent a terminal directly from their processor to swipe at home. The cost is $50 per terminal.
When making the groups please keep in mind that each card = 3 swipes so don't let you group get too big as M"S R"T is 5:45 assuming the house it's in starts right away you only have a little over 6 hours to swipe, and still need time to batch out and keep replacing receipt rolls.

Please enroll in a group below. Please indicate the amount of swipes you expect to do.

Update:
I spoke to the processor. Without renting hardware it's $35 to get setup with a virtual terminal web login. You'll need a usb mag swipe for it. I'm in Lakewood and I have one as such I'm starting a group using this option. If you have you're own hardware you can login yourself, even simultaneously, and swipe on your own. However gcr will get the totals by login so anyone arranging a group will also have to keep track of who swiped what.
Assuming you can make it work outside the US, this is a great option for people in Israel to cash in on sbs.

the wiki says that there are only 6 hrs to swipe on MS. But as stated here http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=45425.msg976204#msg976204  SBS ends at 12 MST so you have 8 hrs until 2 am EST.

I'm setting up in lakewood. However I can't guarantee that I'll be able to have people come to my house to swipe. If you have your own hardware let me know and we can still share the login

can do it simultaneously. But must keep track of who swipes what. As the totals will be calculated by login

I've never heard of individual CC transactions being lumped together. Probably cannot even be done if the transaction is run as a sale. Maybe 2 pre-auths can be combined into one postauth but even that wouldn't happen automatically.

Regarding swiping $10,$10,$10
The processor is disabling the security feature that blocks these transactions as duplicates. That means the transaction will run through the processor but that doesn't mean Amex won't flag them. Either way it's definitely better to loop through all your cards rather than to swipe each card 3 times. And if you start running into trouble just do $10,$10.01,$10.02
