I used them this past summer and it was the next day. They charge the gov't fee + their fee. I don't remember what it was but I priced a few places that I googled and they were the cheapest. Regarding your kids passports, I believe both parents need to be there because of possible custody issues.

I booked a delta refundable, printed it and cancelled it, my wife is now by the office can anyone confirm if they check if the ticket is valid?

For an adult renewal, don't go to the post office - mail it. For a new baby passport,  BOTH parents MUST be there. Major pain.

There is a form the absent parent fills out and gets notarize plus copy of Both sides of their ID

I have used a hotel reservation in Canada and it worked. Canceled the reservation right after the passport was printed just in case they call to verify the reservation

A passport expediter like Fastport, or EZ passport has you go to the passport window of the post office and get the documents arranged and put into a sealed envelope.  You bring that back to the expediter and he gets it for you same day / next day, etc. So you have to be there.  (At least this was the way it was done a few years ago.)
If you have 3 weeks, you can just get it expedited by the passport people.  $60 + $15.
The services cost about $100 to $300 on top of all these passport fees.

When I went with my kid to get a passport and tried to give him mine to renew, he told me to mail it.  It seemed like they don't take renewals. Or maybe if they take it they have to charge the 'post office fee' of $25, and by mail you don't have that fee.

I got just about two weeks.   Will probably just go myself.   the time is just  ticking cause  im waiting  for my baby's social...  should hopefully get it by Monday.  I dont want to pay those  ridiculous  fees for expedited passport by  these agencies

If you have the time to sit in the main passport office, you can get it much quicker.  I don't know the details, but it's pretty immediate.

yup. 2 library branches.  Central (grand army plaza) and Kings Highway (2115 Ocean Ave.)
They both open at 10:00.  I've been at grand army- pleasant experience.  1 hr wait while browsing books.  beeper to call us back. helpful staff.
