Shouldn't take more then 1.5 from Downtown Montreal did that trip a while ago took little more than a hour

Not really. You hit Montreal first and then continue up North.

Tosh / Boisbriand is less of a detour then going into the city, but the food options are limited to groceries etc. No restaurants there.

Most of the good restaurants are just around the decarie expressway which is technically the highway 15, there's a kosher grocery on Vicoria as well as a fully stocked IGA supermarket on Van Horne both are just a couple if blocs from the highway.

Not sure what he was referring to, but rush hour in Montreal (on Decarie) can start as early as 4 o'clock.

At the stores there's always good to make a reservation especially at Chops & Yakimono.
On the road avoid 4:00-6:30 pm from the Champlain bridge until up to Laval.
