Map is not too accurate. Yakimono is way off, it the other way down decarie from chabad area. They are missing sprinkz, and pizza gourmetti moved location.
Thanks for the update. Are you from Montreal btw?

Officially you can't (unless you have an enhanced driver's license). I've made it INTO ny with just a licence but YMMV (and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work into Canada).

I go all the time, I forgot my Passport once, it was such a pain, I had to get someone to fax copies of the first page of the Passport, would not advise to try without one, unless you have no choice

They MIGHT let you through with that but then again I wouldn't rely on that Lechatchilah (and by that I mean I would only rely on that if I was already in Plattsburgh and realized I brought the wrong passport).

Definitely need a car.
I've been doing some research on the need for a car. Since we're only going to be in town for 28 hours, we will end up having to pay for 1 day and 2 hours or so before we need to get back to the airport.

Our travels will take us:

YUL-Residence Inn Westmount (RIW)-Restaurant-RIW-Mount Royal Park-Old Port-RIW-Restaurant-YUL

All the restaurants we want to visit are right near subway stops, as is everything else (bus to the park).

We'd each need a 3 day pass for $18 (unless we're delayed and get in late in which case we'll just get $10 day passes).

At $36 via public transit vs $59 just for a car without gas I find it hard to rationalize renting a car.

Yes, it will take 30 vs 12 minutes to get from the hotel to the restaurants in the Chabad area, but besides that, is there a reason I'm missing as to why we should rent a car?

When are you going? Winter-time? Assuming you are 2 adults (w/out excessive luggage) and you have confirmed that all of your destinations are directly on metro stops it's not unreasonable. I can't imagine not having a car to explore a new city, but if you don't plan on deviating from your plan the metro is actually really convenient in Montreal (I've never taken it to the airport though).

We're going Sun-Mon of chol hamoed. To get to/from the airport there's a bus that stops in many metro stops, including the one near the RIW.  While the regular metro costs $3/ride, the 747 bus costs $10/ride but is included in the 1- or 3-day passes.

Why can't you imagine exploring a new city without a car? I understand in some cities like LA it's absolutely mandatory, but NYC? If you're only going to be in Manhattan (and maybe a little bit in Brooklyn) I would never consider renting a car.

+1, I have done just fine exploring cities using the public transportation. Montreal has a great metro system, very fast and smooth.

In certain cities like NYC it may be inconvenient to have a car. But for the most part, the time I have on vacation is worth the small premium I pay for having a car (which is usually not much more). Just the flexibility and time I save makes it worthwhile for me, but everyone's different!

Would you consider my prices a small premium? It's about  2x or 3.5x more expensive base in my numbers!
