Visiting Israel Now
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:16:34 PM »
I have a trip planned in about 2 weeks. Is it worth postponing? I feel like now might not be the best time to go. I was there during the last intifada but this time it seems more dangerous.

Depends where you plan on visiting. Only near the west bank might be dangerous. In a way the security in Israel is on the highest level.

Honestly you have to be careful everywhere. Times are bad. I don't think anyone can tell you what to do. I know plenty of people going this week and the next.

Ummmmmm.....I'm not one to ever say not to go to Israel but you DO realize that all the major attacks in the last month were in Yerushalayim, not the West Bank, right?

the main attack was there, but there was a car attack in the west bank.

We were hoping to have a fun vacation but now even going into town is scary.

This is a decision you need to make for yourself. Personally, these are the times I want to go most. Was very close to hopping on a plane during the summer

Personally I would get on a plane now without asking questions at all if god wants you dead you would be already.
And what will it help you to wait it can go like this forever

I had the same question this past summer.  In the end we went.

Don't ask DTB, but statistically more people have died in NYC from terrorists than in Israel in its entire history

Don't postpone. Be alert and cautious. Don't take the train past Jaffa gate. Use taxi companies that only hire Jewish drivers. And it obviously goes without saying that there's never a reason good enough to go to an Arab neighborhood.

I feel safe here.

I initially was not arguing with you on this point. But, if you're referring to 9/11, you're wrong.

Yeah including attacks since 1920, outside Israel, and during war

I'm sorry for your (deliberate) vagueness.
It includes exactly 21 people killed outside of Israel.
It (unfortunately) does not include soldiers killed in combat. A terrorist attack is a terrorist attack; no matter when.

There's no way of ever knowing 2 weeks in advance what's gonna happen there. It could be a calm period or there could be a war.
Go and be smart,
Enjoy!

+1
The Chizuk you can give by visiting far outweighs the risk (which as mentioned up-thread, despite all the hype, isn't that big)
