Dealing with Customer Service reps
« on: November 27, 2014, 12:38:54 PM »
When on the phone I am always not sure how to handle the conversation for best results

If you are polite but firm the rep might do whatever he/she can do to help you, but wont have a problem saying that she can't honor your request by saying " I am so sorry but unfortunately at this time the system wont allow me to", and even if you are polity disappointed you will not be taken seriously. On the other hand the rep will appreciate your attitude and may just honor your request.

If you frustrated and outright disappointed they might extend a courtesy based on your frustration and the risk of losing your business.  On the other hand the rep may answer your questions in one word answers or by listing many terms and conditions explaining why he/she wont even think about "looking into this matter" and if you threaten to cancel your card or even declare war against their financial institution they will reply "that's fine, and if you would like I can go ahead and forward you to that department"

Now obviously HUCA, but how do you get it right the first time

Any thoughts?

+1.
It helps to show disappointment in the service they are providing, but I find it's almost always better to be nice.

He specifically asked about customer service. There is no customer service here at all so it doesn't apply.

Being firm and nasty right back to them works pretty well for me here!! I like to give them a taste of their own medicine. I actually enjoy doing it back to them, especially when I come out with the upper hand.

I work in customer service, started out on the phones. in our company at least, we are authorized to give up to #35 dollars of free stuff. Can never hurt to ask. Make sure to highlight how long you have been with the company, how much your last order was, or how much you spend monthly. Make sure to know the company's competitor's details as well. If you have any specific questions, feel free to pm.

To add: On Ebay or Amazon (third party sellers), mention negative feedback and that should usually get you what you need. Don't threaten it in writing, that is enough to get your feedback scrubbed.

Please don't be a jerk to sellers, they are usually individuals or really small companies who are working on razor thin margins.

I'm having trouble reconciling your two statements.

On Ebay or Amazon (third party sellers), mention negative feedback and that should usually get you what you need. But, don't threaten it in writing - either do it over the phone, or hint to it in your emails. If you threaten negative feedback in writing they can get Ebay or Amazon to remove your feedback, and they have no need to resolve your issue.

Please don't be a jerk to sellers, they are usually individuals or really small companies who are working on razor thin margins. But, feel free to use the above method if you have a legitimate issue, just be friendly and polite about it.

Better?

Business is business! you should never be a jerk period, but never lose out because you have pity on a sellers profits

BTW as small as the seller is he doesn't give a dam about your margins so why not return the favor
