That doesn't work if the extender isn't "compatible". That works on for example phones that sometimes have issues loading the login page..What extender are you using?
tried it a few months ago, I don't remember the extender used.

I got the https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR90E3A  and it works!
I saw the TP-Link AC1750 Wi-Fi Range Extender RE450  is recommended by WireCutter. Have you tried this one? Is there some feature to look for that would allow you to login to Optimum?
I ended up ordering the RE650 (recommended by @ckmk47) from Amazon and set it up tonight. So far it's working great! My iffy connection of the last few weeks has been such a pain and I decided to spend the extra $50 for the better model.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Glad for you!
I didn't know what I was doing, either, but with help from @Eliyohu and @Yisroel Tech, I had enough confidence to buy something.  And it worked.

I have been using the TP Link extender for a couple of weeks without any  problem. Last week there was a storm and optimum went down. For some reason even since optimum is back up, I can’t connect to the internet through the extender. If I go outside I can connect directly to the hotspot and inside I see “Optimum” better no broadcast from the extender but I just can’t connect to the internet...Any suggestions?

My gut tells me the issue is with the optimum password. Any way to refresh the credentials?

I wonder is this item can connect to optimum and then connect this to your own Router... People do this in hotels.

Recently I've set myself up using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and an Alfa AWUS036AC WiFi adapter with a 9dBi long-range antenna.

I did it just to play around with the Raspberry Pi as a toy...but it works pretty well...after some messing around.

(Used the wifi-to-wifi-route.sh script from here to set up the hotspot https://github.com/arpitjindal97/raspbian-recipes)

Anyone else having issues with auto login recently, with direct optimum it's working fine but it won't allow me to do auto login thru my extender, this is for both devices that are set for auto login on reg public optimum and ones that aren't..?
