Probably no way to sign in manually. You'll need to add the extender's MAC address to the account for auto sign-in. And even then I'm not sure it will work.
Still not working... any other tips?

Ubiquity is certainly a beast.

(Are you referring to the Optimum Public WiFi conversation? If yes, how would you get the Ubiquity to work with it?)
Ubiquiti is the best

I find the optimum wifi as a whole somewhat unreliable, now try extending it and its even worse. Go for their 20/20 package.

The extender will work, the ones that are the easiest you just select the network you want to extend from a drop down list, then you are good.
From a long time ago but have you actually done this...

If he only uses one PC I'd go with a long-range antenna or his PC. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038Q4AIG/
There's a ton of diff options for such antennas can you recommend one that's under $20

I recommended a specific one which I used and it's great. The price for these aren't in the $20 range, show me one 9dBi USB WiFi antenna for under $30.

I don't know any of the tech details of what I'm looking for anything else besides 9dBi

That is why I already recommended one that's good... 9dBi is the main thing to look here (this is the long range antenna that gives it the ability to get single from further than your computer can grab it), also, of course, it should be from a somewhat known brand.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it seems to pick up fewer wifi signals than my built in wifi card... and optimum is not being picked up by the alfa only by the built in card (and when it is picked up it won't connect)

What @Yisroel Tech suggested upthread was to get a high gain wifi antenna that you attach to your pc... and you can turn the pc into a hotspot

Success!
I've managed to set this up with a netgear wifi extender. However I can only get my computer to sign in to optimum my galaxy s5 on the other hand won't load the optimum sign in page. If I manually put in the optimum log in page it comes up (as well as the main optimum site if I put that in) however I get a message that I need to b connected to optimum wifi to log in. My phones mac adress is already registered for auto log in, however when connected to the netgear extender my phone is saying sign in required but won't actually load the page. Any thoughts or ideas I can try?
