What @Yisroel Tech suggested upthread was to get a high gain wifi antenna that you attach to your pc... and you can turn the pc into a hotspot
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=47309.msg1709937.msg#1709937

So than there is a way, to set up your laptop/pc into a hotspot using the poor wifi connection you have thru the antenna.

Why are you saying it's not possible?

I am totally confused.

You quoted the wrong person (forsure the wrong post)... when @yisroel tech said...

Nope.
He was referring to using a wifi extender  to create a network or atleast a wifi connection through out your home, which I've since accomplished.

However @yisroel tech suggestion upthread about adding an antenna to your pc etc definitely should work although I personally was never able to get it to work..

Thanks for your response.

Since you mention you have accomplished to extend the wifi into your home, can you please share in simple instructions how you accomplished it?

I purchased this netgear extender I know this tp link will work as well. The one issue which I'm having with the netgear is sometimes when trying to connect to it I'll get a failed to obtain ip adress which the tp link reportedly doesn't have an issue with. I'd assume that other models should work as well being I'd assume the firmware etc are similar however I tried a cheaper tp link that didn't work
I added it's mac adress to optimum although I'm pretty sure it's not necessary.
I set up the extender to connect to the strongest optimum network.
I connected my devices to the extender and the optimum sign in page came up in my browser.
Important note for some reason the mac adress of your device is recognized differently then when connecting this way vs straight to the optimum network. If you do auto sign in you'll need to do it twice and will be reconized as different devices.

Hi! I currently only have a solid optimum connection at home, I have a ooma box and would love to know if it's possible to get some sort of wifi extender or something else, that would let me connect my ooma box with the optimum wifi... any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

If you have a spot in your home where there's a decent  amount of an Optimum signal, you could put a wifi extender there, and it will extend the signal further in to  your house.

that seems very simple just how do you manage to set up that connector?
Assuming he's asking do you need a computer where I'm going to plug it in or is it going to be plugged into the wall and how do I connect my wifi to the Optimum WiFi?...
If I remember correctly it was explained a bit up thread but since I do not remember so well I guess a reminder would be helpful. ;)

I would imagine it should
I think it has to do with the "firmware" , and it seems that Netgear devices work

Report back please!

My friend had his whole home business running off Optimum Public Hotspot (in Monsey) and like 2 weeks ago it just disappeared from his old Dell Inspiron laptop.
