Downgraded to an arrival and applied the next day and got approved. What that means I dont know. I had the card 1+ years already. Not sure what exactly feeds into the decision of auto approving it.

IME, I wait at least 3 months because I find that when I do earlier, their system still recognizes me as having open account..... and can't extend more credit....... even though I closed the account 2 months ago. Therefore not only no instant approval but the need to recon which is hard if you do this 4 times a year.

You closed your account. I'm talking about downgrading. My theory is when downgrading to another card it is easier to get instant approval since the system no longer sees you as current / past cardholder of the product

If I downgrade within the first two months do I still get my annual fee refunded just as if I canceled it?

You can try. Sometimes however it takes a bit for the system to reflect the new product u downgraded to.

You'll be automatically denied , as the system will automatically detect you as an existing customer. It takes at least a few days.

Just called in to try to downgrade; got the whole shtick with losing miles and that I can't so I said I guess I'm going to have to close the card. I spent $1 and I'm supposed to be getting the $25 for paperless coming in the mail. After 5 min. Being put on hold, he came back and said we are putting an alert on you. How bad is that? And can I cash the check when it comes even though I closed the account?
