Book early and rebook often using best price from searches - try portals (which are just codes) and codes constantly and if you beat your best booked price, rebook!

Car rentals are cancelable so just keep searching every week (day?).

Why not just change the name on the reservation to the additional driver, making him/her the primary driver?
Cause of a contract code that needs to be on my name.... In short I need to be the primary driver but I want the additional driver to pay with his CC.

Let him make you an AU on his card.

Just heard that someone under 23 is not allowed to rent a car in Ireland. That's got to be incorrect, right?

I've rented a car twice in my life, and I just paid a TA to do it for me. I know that the "Need help?" thread barely gets responses, and I don't mind doing the legwork myself. My problem is that I have no idea where to start.

I can read the wikis of the main companys' master threads, but how does one go about deciding who to rent from and which codes will work best for their specific situation? When I want to fly somewhere, I can use ITA to determine which airlines fly my route and then figure out which partners can book that route for the cheapest points. Any ways to knock down the car rental options, so it's somewhat less daunting to start searching? Or does everyone here search through every major company's site and try all the codes till they find with company/code will be cheapest?
I try responding to all posted in the need help thread.
Most of the time i am able tp find the best rate, hence people email or pm me for help all the time and u can join that crew, although i mostly just stick to Hertz bc i find them to be the easiest to knock down the price most of the time.
I dont charge like a travel agent, but it would be nice if ppl give something sometimes to compensate for the time, considering that they are saving $$.

Need a car that holds at least 6, what is the cheapest way to do? I thought of a few options :
1. Get hertz vouchers,  the pay to upgrade to minivan. Dunno if that works
2. Get executive aisle at National,  and hope there is something that holds 6
In either case,  I would get a minivan reservation as a backup

personally, I'd do option 2.

even if there's nothing in the aisle, National charges a third of what Hertz charges to upgrade.

Makes sense. Plus,  I don't need to deal with the scrutiny of the vouchers

Plus, National credits (especially now with 1-2 Free) are worth more then Hertz points.

Vouchers and upgrade would not work. Maybe try using Hertz COnvention CV code 022L4225 and see what price it gets you.

Best option is usually Costcotravel.com you don't have to be a member to search. Only thing they don't have is Hertz. Autoslash.com is another great site.
Safest option IMO is to play around, even with risky codes, and then try to use priceline.com
Each company has different tactics to get cheaper tastes and they all have their pluses and minuses.

IMHO autoslash is horrible. No normal car rental companies and horrible search help. At least IME

Didn't notice, but yeah still helpful.

Another great shtick is to book vacation packages with airfare and cancel airfare within 24 hrs. #EthicsThread

Don't rent so often,  so don't care much about the points
