Oscar in NY cut about half their doctors and hospitals while increasing rates for 2017. Including NYU which is where our doctors are. Can anyone recommend anothr Obama care provider which is easy to deal with?

Also is there still an option to buy insurance on the private market or is it only what is available on Obama care?

Most of the plans on the exchange in NYC have very poor networks.

Your best bet is to ask your doctors which insurance plans they accept, and work from there.

If you own your own business, there are many other options with decent networks available, but you don't get subsidies (though you do get to deduct the cost of the insurance from income).

They take most other insurers on the marketplace but I did really like Oscar so looking for the next best provider

I don't get subsidies anyways and don't really own a business

No one will be the same.

You definitely want to avoid Emblem. They are terrible.

IINM of the exchange plans Empire Blue Cross has the best network.

The top three carriers in the NY market are Aetna, Empire Blue Cross, and UnitedHealthcare. With almost any insurer you go, if you go in network and give the provider (doctor's office or facility) your insurance card, you shouldn't have to deal with anything.

Blue Cross is good but about DOUBLE the price than the other plans

How about any of these

Health plus
Health first
Fidelis care
Affinity health plan

No one I know uses them, since the local doctors didn't accept them.

I think that Fidelis might be better than the others, as some doctors started accepting them.

If you want a plan that gives you access to a wide range of good providers, you would want Empire.

If you qualify, and are in good health, you might want to go with a catastrophic plan.

Have you ever heard the expression "you get what you pay for"? That is actually a best case scenario.

The amount of profit the insurers are allowed to make, is highly regulated. They operate in the same markets. Presumably the large ones have more bargaining power. So there must be a reason for the difference in price. It will be with the availability of providers or with your out of pocket expenses.

What's the chidush here? All expected.

Undoing a government action, especially when it DIRECTLY affects so many citizens, is an extremely complicated feat to accomplish (and Obama & Co were fully aware of that, but which is why they rushed to put something in place that will only take full effect towards the end of Obama's reign, that was part of the meticulous plan, including the design for failure).

It puts it together nicely. I also found it cute that it is dated next Monday.

If my child files taxes separately, can I get them on my Medicaid plan or do they need to apply separately?

First: when it comes to Medicaid, every individual has their own separate coverage (though the applications for an entire household can go in together).

Second: If child is over 18 and is not part of your household, child needs to apply separately.

IMO it's a no brainer. Emblem is terrible (I've heard this both from Doctors and from members). Empire (Anthem) is a first class company.
