orbitz flight question
« on: December 31, 2010, 03:15:22 AM »
i found a ticket on orbitz thats multicity tlv-ewr on elal and phl-tlv on usair, for a total of $1430.  i'm trying to figure out how thats possible, since elal and us do not partner in any way. and checking up for that oneway on elals website it's $1682, just for that leg!   so how are they mixing the two together at a regular roundtrip price???   (i'm not just curious, i really need to know to book another ticket...)

Why does it matter how they do it?  If its bookable then grab it!

not a codeshare.  coming up as elal on one leg and us on the other leg.   id love to book it problem is i already bought tickets on usair because i didnt realize they could be mixed.   the leg going from tlv to phl is a pain though, an extra half hour flying and a 2 and a half hour ride back to ny.  (going back to tlv im coming from fll so just a connection in phl and doesnt make a difference).    my tickets are semi refundable and could be changed without any fees so i was trying to figure out if there was some way to change the first leg to elal tlv ewr.   i doubt its possible.

Why can't it be that it's a one way on elal and a one way on US that orbitz is putting together for you?

Because ELAL one way is very expensive, so that's not likely what Orbitz is doing.

There are different fare codes, and AFAIK agents like expedia are not subject to the pricing premiums that airlines will charge others. In other words, if someone is booking a round trip then why wouldn't ElAl want to make RT pricing on a OW, since they know that this person is doing a RT anyways

sounds sensible, but i have a hard time believing elal would give them tickets at such a discount.  they're not known for their flexibility.          bottom line is though, i'm stuck with this us ticket because even though it's "refundable" that only means changes are free, but to cancel i'm charged $200 a ticket. and even if i could somehow manage to cancel the leg from tlv-phl without it being considered a cancellation (which i doubt i could do), i would have no way of adding the elal leg without paying the exorbitant ow prices.   the only thing would be to cancel completely and rebook. anyone has any ideas how to get around paying the cancellation fee?

Probably too late now, but whenever I've checked US prices, adding a LGA-PHL/PHL/LGA leg to a PHL-TLV/TLV-PHL never costs anything. Earlier this year I was dealing with a travel agent who was dealing directly with US, and they told her on  her group booking, that she could add the LGA-PHL leg to any of the individual flights for no extra charge.
Did you book directly through US?

ya, i booked directly through them.  not sure if its worth it to book a phl/lga leg, to get back on another plane with 2 kids... its probably just easier to rent a car and take the drive... they sleep in the carseats :)
