Where to transfer all the SPG points
« on: January 11, 2016, 08:54:32 AM »
Very soon the SPG program is gonna be history, the question what to do with all the valuable SPG points that are sitting in our accounts, I was thinking of transferring them all to an airline with a good value at a 20:25k ratio, the question is what airline will give me the best value on premium classes.

My first thoughts are either AS (nice variety of airline partners) or A3 (cheap to Israel)

Not going to happen anytime soon.

AS used to be a problem when transferring large amounts of spg, not sure what the current status is.

Either way, why not wait until they announce what they are doing?

The deal is not expected to close for another 6 months at the earliest. Then it takes time for them to decide and announce how they will reshape the programs. Assuming for a second they totally get rid of the SPG and airline transfers or a massive deval of such, theyll give some lead time to finish up transfers.

In my estimation, in an end-of-SPG-xfer scenario, you are looking at a year minimum. But likely longer.

Just to play devils advocate there is nothing to stop them from sending out an email one morning taking away the 20% transfer bonus before they merge, with no warning.

Just like they could've done the last 10 years.

But if it's not Starwood the ones doing it then it may happen

matching names, paid AF's, no shtick.. not worried.. Those who had issues know why.

Not likely.

Look how long it took AA and US Airways to merge programs, and that was a lot easier than merging programs with completely different award charts.
