Glass Repair in Queens:
« on: December 16, 2014, 01:25:50 PM »
Does anyone have a recommendation for glass repair/replacement in Queens? A fairly large crack (scratch?) has appeared in my windshield, and from reading the other 2 threads on this topic (both too old to post in) it sounds like Safelite or any other major operation will probably be way overpriced - local is the way to go. I have no idea yet whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced. This is a leased car and the deductible is too high to make insurance an option (no special glass policy).

TIA

I had glass coverage (who knew?) when my wife's windshield got a huge crack in it. Called Geico (I think). They sent Safelight and replaced the windshield on the street in front of my house.

As I mentioned, I don't have glass coverage. It was around $60/yr more and I've never had a glass problem before, so I figured it wasn't worth it. It doesn't sound like this will end up costing me nearly enough to have made it worthwhile anyway. Also, people in one of the older threads on the topic seem to have had bad experiences with them.

Anybody else with a recommendation?

Thanks for the responses.

My wife called several places (including Far Rockaway Auto Glass and Mike the Glazier), most of them found simply by searching auto glass on Google Maps and looking for places fairly close to KGH. The cheapest ended up being a place in Brooklyn right off the Jackie - I'll post again with the name when I find it. It was $195 (cash only) to replace the windshield, and the whole thing was really quick on a Sunday. The other places all gave quotes at least $25 higher.
