assuming tuition is $5k a semester, does the 5x points justify the fees for the gift card?

it might justify the fees but you'll only make a few percent back which in that case maybe your school would give that few percent off if you pay with check rather then credit card as they don't lose(because they would have to pay processing fee) and that way you don't give through the whole hassle

I tried stealing them but they didn't work and when I called the number on the back they refused to help me.

Trying to get compensation now.

What about a card that gives 5 ppd  in a pharmacy. Amex Everyday?  Amex blue? Then the fees are just $5 for  $500 GC.
