expiring points
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:16:43 PM »
hi! I'm quite inexperienced in dealing  with mileage points.  I just got a phonecall yesterday from AA saying that my husband has 109,000 points that will expire this Friday, unless there's some activity.  They claim that they don't send reminders in the mail and I didn't give them an email account, so this is their attempt to contact me.  They told me that it's too late to make a purchase from their website since it takes 4-6 weeks for it to go thru. they said that i can either pay approx $160 to extend the miles, or I can book a ticket or rent a car.  I don't really want to pay that money to extend the miles, and I don't currently need to fly anywhere or drive anywhere. (I own a van).  Is there any loop that I can take to keep my points active!  thanks alot!

Magazines.. Here the link - https://subscription.points.com/magazines.htm;jsessionid=1E87804993BD49F928469596F2DAB207?execution=e1s1&lp=American

Your Welcome.

will magazine purchase post by tomorrow?

OP - 109,000 points is a good amount of AA points, worth quite a bit of money if you redeem a business/first international flight.

Why not?
As long as the miles get revived, although  I can't vouch for it....

Either way, nice of them to call right before it expires

Your Welcome.
Thank you for this.

Although I was going to post this as well, I clicked on the link and see that SI for Kids is finally back in stock.

I have some lonely Spirit miles and a sons Channukah present to attend to.

About 3 years ago I used the AA shopping portal to extend the life of my miles. The purchase was made a short while before the expiration date. The miles posted a few weeks later and reactivated my miles retroactively.
