International Gift Cards or eGift Cards
« on: December 21, 2014, 10:27:16 PM »
I need to send Holiday gifts for some people across the ocean.  First I considered an Amazon eCard but then I realized they might have little use out of it since they don't ship to some of those countries. Then I thought about Amex GC's, again I learned it is only chargeable in the US. Any suggestions?

Thanks! However,  the reason I wanted to go with amex GC was not to limit them to one category. Now my question remains does amex or visa (or any other bank) offer GC's in other countries?

After searching a bit online, I learned all International gift cards were discontinued recently. Seems the gov cracked down on them. However, Vanilla GC's bought prior to 3.31.2012 are still chargable internationally. I know the vanilla thing was/is quite popular round here... Was wondering if some might still have one that was bought prior to the cutoff date?

This is probably the wrong forum for such request, Kindly guide me where to post. Thanks!

Good luck finding a vgc purchased prior to 3/31/12 with $ on it.
Even though vanilla still has that message on the phone system.

"If your gift card was purchased before march 30th 2012,your gift card can be used internationally.all gift cards purchased after march 30th 2012 cannot be used internationally"

A prepaid card is basically a debit card for people without a bank account. You go to the check cashing place, they take your ID, then create a card under your name, then you can prepay and reload etc. But the card is under the name of the applicant. I cannot send something like this for a gift. Thanks though.
