Not a good sign when you change your entire business model within a couple of months of launch

They were getting orders that were double the amount of units ordered than they expected (=orders are much more profitable than expected). Jet is actually thriving right now according to 3rd party reports.

Jet has been evolving since day 1, constantly testing to see what works best and refining their site and model. Do you like when management stays the course even when the variables change?

They thought they would get more people to sign up for memebership, but there's too many people that aren't interested in paying for Prime and Jet.

The free 3 month trial was almost over, and they felt a lot of customers wouldn't keep Jet and Prime.
If they determined that they can make money without charging memebership,
Why wouldn't they go for it?

Lore was probably scared shirtless that all his investors would pull out when after 3 months membership went from 5 million to 500,000 (made up numbers) and realized he had to change something fast, so he made membership free.

That's not how these type of investments work.

The plan is to make as much money as possible.

Any other dumb questions?

The plan is to show as much sales as possible, while ignoring the profits or viability of such a business model long term.
FTFY.

Agreed what Lore did is not how these investments work. You don't go raising hundreds of millions on a stated business model and then change it a few moths later. You can drink the kool-aid all you want but the fact that they were too scared to test paid membership should show something.

Let me ask you when did they realize people won't pay for Jet and Prime? After he got everyone to invest in them telling them he will make money off paid membership?

I sure hope he's that dumb otherwise he defrauded a whole lot of investors.

I think there are plenty of people willing to pay for membership but way more people that would buy for free.

They're now actually able to make money right away on their orders so if I was an investor I wouldn't be worried at all. I know you're very cynical and pessimistic, but again, jet is doing very well, so stating your opinions with your head buried in the the sand frankly doesn't make sense to me.

Channel advisor, the biggest ecommerce platform for sellers said so after analyzing sales, repeat sales, and etc. They say jet is already the #4 platform for sellers. And if it matters, jet says they are selling double the amount of units than they originally estimated.

No surprise either that many other companies are developing platforms to support jet.

Not to mention, now that the discounts are lower, you should start seeing a lot of brands that were never on jet or pulled their products off the site.

I'm not trying to be cynical and asked sincerely but its very difficult not to be skeptical.

Don't know where all the skepticism is coming from.

They're a regular ecommerce site right now and can make money like anyone else charging 15% referral fees.

The only discounts that they provide right now are smart cart discounts which are savings passed on for shipping a few items at once. It's not a not-for-profit site anymore. Still skeptical?

As jj and others have said. They raised unprecedented amounts of money pre launch selling investors (and costomers) on their business model which they are abandoning after several months. I'm not saying it cant be that they're doing great but how can you not see why people are skeptical ?
