Regardless the WSJ article isn't good for Amazon (short-term) and it isn't good for Jet (long-term). So even if someone thinks the WSJ can be bribed to post an article (hint: they can't) who exactly is gaining here?

I disagree with the correlation to dot com boom, this case is much different.
Elon Musk was handed billions and lost billions before Tesla and Spacex were successful.
Marc Lore is no Elon Musk, but he is one of the few that has a chance to launch a successful ecommerce site that can gain 20b in revenue in 5 years.
Investors will probably know within the year if Jet has a very good shot at staying around.
If it's a failure, they'll collectively lose less than a billion dollars, which is nothing compared to what they stand to gain.
