Hertz Prestige: Which car to Choose
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:10:36 PM »
 ;D

I have multiple one-week reservations at PBI that I found at Hertz.com using the generic Delta discount code with the 200 mile coupon. Base rate on Prestige cars showed up significantly less than even a basic economy...

Mrs. Elite Flyer and I have boiled down our choices to either:

A) Infiniti G37 (4 door) base rate $80 per week: Total after taxes and concessions $110
B) Mercedes "C-Series" (nothing more specific in the description) base rate $86: Total after taxes and concessions $118

There was also a hard top corvette convertible (not sure if its a V8) for $152 AI, and a Volvo C70 convertible for $110.

Max mileage is 1400 per week; .35 for each additional mile.

Which car do you recommend for cruising south Florida in for a week.

I'm assuming your taking insurance. (Its not always included in CC.)

Amex wont cover it? Both of these cars have an MSRP well under 50K.

Not in front of PC but I'm not sure that MC would cover it, although AMEX probably would.

Luxury cars are included in insurance, exotic cars arent.

I don't think either of the above would be considered exotic. But a quick call to confirm would probably be best.

Called Amex. Both of these cars are covered, although the agent advised that the Mercedes C class could potentially have an MSRP of 58,000 if its well equipped, in which case, it would not be covered.

Just spoke to a manager at Hertz at PBI who was happy to give me the information for insurance purposes. Their C series is $40,000.

Amex SPG should be fine.

I suspect that there was some sort of glitch in the Hertz booking system. I went to Delta.com, and followed their link for rental cars (https://offer.hertz.com/offers/index.jsp?targetPage=DLMS01.jsp&id=21182) which plugged in some generic discount code for Hertz. At that point I grabbed the rate as soon as I saw it. Coincidentally, I checked back today and the rates on luxury cars were back up to their normal $600-$1000 range.....and yesterday, the weekly rate was just $87. Incidentally, the guy at the counter today was pretty impressed with the rate.

Pretty funny, this is the first time that I A) rented a car without a corporate account and B) didn't ask for an upgrade. (nor did the rep try to sell me an upgrade:-)

We ended up taking the Mercedes for the week at $117 all in.

A similar rate was available even w/o using the DL coupon when I posted it.
