Staying at an Airbnb for the next few nights. I'm really pleased with the house overall, it's better than advertised. Very clean and comfortable. Problem is that we discovered a rodent issue. Our dry foods which were stored in the kitchen pantry closet were damaged overnight by what looks to be mice. Also see evidence of mouse droppings in a few kitchen cabinets. I moved all the undamaged items into our coolers for safekeeping. What would be the best way to handle this? I'm not even sure what I want from the host? Any ideas?
If the house is in such great shape, the owners care about keeping it that way.  Contact them, tell them what's going on, and ask if they've had this problem before (which is likely) and how they usually handle it.   If they don't come over tomorrow you might want to go to a hardware store and get some glue traps (to put under the sink, in cabinets, around the walls) and steel wool (to stuff into openings in the cabinet under the sink, like around the plumbing, which is how they often get in).  And keep all food in the coolers or the fridge, tie up garbage bags and throw out. (They eat through plastic and cellophane.)

This thread does not seem very active.

Is there any tweak to lower the total price?

1. Haggling, I rather not.
2. Coupons, I cannot find a working one.
3. Gift credit, is there a way to one with a decent discount.

The total incl. fees is approx. $2k

Feel free to PM.

Asking them via the messaging if they want to circumvent?
Sounds crazy

All you need to do is get a phone number or email past the algorithm...

There are a few issues that can crop up by circumventing Airbnb/Vrbo/HomeAway.
By bypassing the hosting website and renting directly with owner, will make you lose any claim for double booking, won’t have insurance and other issues.
I rented a house in North-Conway New Hampshire, 4 summers ago, and went thru the hosting site (didn’t bypass). And on the 2nd day we had a family of 4 “shchorim” come, saying that they rented it. The owner confirmed that he did rent it to them, but after we booked it. We let him know that if they enter the house, we’ll call police, and file a complaint/breach of contract with Airbnb (HomeAway/Vrbo or whichever company it was).
Had we rented directly with him, we wouldn’t have those recourses.

Correct.
I can imagine if not rented through the site, and someone comes along paying much more, or for a way longer period, he gets rid of you.

I  was looking at it from the renter's perspective.

I know of someone who did it, but in with אנ"ש. Obviously it could have happened but wasn't as big of a concern

Do you get an official contract instead?
