Topic Wiki

There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

Those that do NOT have a credit card insurance, here is an alternative:  https://worldwideinsure.org.

Thanks. Rented a Y in Chicago, and used my CSP. Glad I didn't know beforehand.
They usually only exclude cars that are $75k and up, they probably only mean the Model S and X.

So can someone please make me clear? I am renting a minivan for the summer in NJ. I do not have personal car insurance. Should I purchase liability insurance from the agency? Or does NJ State require the rental company to provide them free of charge?

Amex platinum CDW covers all vehicles up to 75k except for commercial vehicles etc. however it’s secondary coverage. Although I don’t see the big difference between secondary and primary, if you have no other coverage option than the secondary covers you fully.

I was wondering if anyone has experience using car rental insurance on the bank of America travel rewards card.
I wanted to confirm that the card carries this benefit and they make it so hard to find out that I'm worried that when it comes to actually needing (c"v) using it they will make it very difficult.

I can help those that have no rental car insurance. Just pm me.
That works for people anywhere, not just Americans.
LY insurance should always be bought at time of rental and included in Europe.

Someone with a full license scraped another car. Declined kyte's insurance and booked with amex plat enrolled in premium rental insurance. Anything to do about the other car besides paying out of pocket?

I rented a car in Italy with a capital one platinum card. The rental came with CDW but the deductible is more than the damage. Can I use my credit card and what does it cover?

Check the benefit guide, generally credit cards require you to deny cdw or it doesn't kick in.

I had a rental that had a tiny scratch (which I did not know how it got there and was probably there before the rental...), in the end MasterCard covered the cost of the damage but is not willing to pay for the $50 administrative fee. Are they supposed to cover that also? Is there anyway to get them to cover it?

Which rental agency? Very likely you can negotiate with them directly

On October 5th I returned a rental car to Hertz in FLL with a small damage

I already made a claim with AMEX, and gave them the claim number on return of the vehicle.

2 months have passed, and amex still hasn't received anything from them, and neither have I.

Should I be calling that location and pursue this further?
Or is it possible they somehow dropped the ball here?

How long do they even have to bill me etc for the damage?
