There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

I took a car today from Albar (Thrifty) and they made a fuss about dropping the charge for CDW using my Chase BA card together with a letter of coverage from Chase. In the end I lost. Their excuse was something about "card needs to cover all types of insurance otherwise none". Anyone else had similar experience?

I had a car from them and they didn't make me any problems. You just got a horrible rep... You should've walked off.

I wish I would have had time. Of course I said that next time I would do my price comparison accordingly. How much is the actual savings for insurance on a Mazda 5?

Rented from Hertz (Canada) - Booked on Amex
They dug up a scratch on windshield and charged me $200 to CC
I opened a case now with Amex, they want some docs from me-gave them.
they want docs from Hertz - hertz gave immediately a bunch of them, but not yet all (e.g fleet utilization log, photo of damage etc.)

Do I have to worry that hertz won't give docs? will amex not cover me then?
Will I need to dispute the charge? (to get them to give docs, or to get back my money) and will that get me blacklisted?

any experience?

(or does this belong in hertz thread?)

Amex claims dept. suggests that -having paid already- Hertz has no incentive to cooperate. they advise initiating a dispute simply to get the ball rolling.
Is that going to help? should I call hertz 1st? is that going to mean a blacklist regardless?
any experience?

You should be if you paid for the extra insurance.

Amex premium insurance, possibly additional liability depending on your financial situation and personal insurance.

TYVM. I shouldn't take any insurance from the rental company? And is this worth it even if I'm renting for just one day?
Are there any places to read up on this?
