There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

Those that do NOT have a credit card insurance, here is an alternative:  https://worldwideinsure.org.

I shouldn't take any insurance from the rental company? And is this worth it even if I'm renting for just one day?
Taking out any damage insurance from the company disqualifies you from the credit card insurance. Do you have personal auto insurance? What kind of car are you renting?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

No personal insurance. Camry or the like.

SPG without registering for premium should be fine for LDW.

Got you. What about if a different car gets damaged? Who covers that?

That's liability insurance. The rental should come with the state minimum level of coverage for that. You can pay extra for higher coverage. You should make sure to be covered for more than the value of your collectible assets.

Breaking: Citi Cards benefits program will be administered by a new company (Virginia Surety) effective May 15 and will provide CDW coverage in Israel beginning on that date.

Will it be primary or secondary?

After reading some of this thread I'm really confused. I'm renting in ORD from National for one day.

  • Do I have to take any insurance besides what my CC offers?
  • Which CC should I use? I have Freedom/Sapphire, Citi AA Advantage, SPG
  • Do I have to pay with the credit card up front in order to covered?

How classic. According to a Chase benefits rep, "cargo vans" are not covered and a camper would fall under the cargo van category. According to an Amex benefits rep, "cargo vans" are covered, but "campers" have their own category and are not covered. The search continues...

And it could be that Citi will be the winner... Per rep, "If it has at least 4 wheels and is intended to be driven on public roads, it will be covered." Nothing I saw online from them specified the types of vehicles covered (as opposed to every other bank that listed types of cars excluded). Now just trying to get that in writing.
