Topic Wiki

There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

NEED HELP
got in to a small rear end collision, hit another car really minor with a rental car, and did not have liability.
The other driver is now claiming bodily injury obviously because they can, and hertz will pay it without fighting and will come back for reimbursement from me. What can I do to get out of this. Car was rented with sapphire reserve.

Think all the rental companies come with the minimum state required liability amount (very low but def helpful).
I'm no expert on this, but you should look into that.

If someone uses my CC to rent a car, will they still be covered? or do I have to be the driver?

I think you always have to be the primary driver.
And I doubt a car rental company would let someone rent with a credit card that's not in their name.

I accidentally filled up diesel instead of regular gas in Israel.
Does the credit card insurance (saphire reserve) cover me for what the rental is going to charge for this mess?

Did the rental tell you that you're responsible?

If there is an active CDW claim on my Chase Sapphire Reserve can I downgrade the card to CSP which also has similar coverage or would that be like closing the card and forfeiting the benefit?

i got rear ended in israel in the summer. finally got all the documentation needed and claim finally went through. Amex is refusing to pay for "Diminishment of Value" which budget put down at over $3,000.
has anyone experienced this? if yes, got any advice on either fighting budget on this or getting amex to pay for it?

I returned a National rental with damage. I got a bill in the mail and I paid right away.

I then proceeded to open a claim with citi (the cc i used), but they wouldn't pay one specific charge: diminishment of value.

So I asked National to waive that particular charge, but they said because I paid already and the case was closed, they can't reopen it and refund me. Otherwise they would've waived it.

Most credit cards don't cover diminished value so before paying make sure to negotiate.

Wow! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

So one is not really fully covered with CDW through credit card?!
This is important information, surprised I never knew that.

ummm, yeah. if this is something car rental agencies are gonna tack on, then coverage is really only partially covered.

paging some of the pros for insight?
