Topic Wiki

There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

Those that do NOT have a credit card insurance, here is an alternative:  https://worldwideinsure.org.

if u make a 1 month rental and get in an accident can you change the return date to make the rental less then 15 days so the CC (sapphire preferred) will cover you?

Don't know for sure but makes sense no since the initial rental agreement says its a 30 day rental. I'm only basing this off that by coupons if you put a coupon on the intial rental agreement and take it off by then end insurance doesn't cover since you initially didn't want to pay full price for the car but it could be by 30 days it doesn't make a difference since at the end of the day the rental was less days

Guys, my friend really needs help.
He had an Avis rental, which he paid for with a One Day Reward, and paid the rest (fees?) with an SPG card he's an AU. He declined Avis' insurance.
In the parking lot, when returning the car, he hit a road bumper and the front bumper fell off.
Avis has a $5,000 bill for him!
Amex denied the claim, since T&C says you have to charge the FULL rental on the card.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

He messed up.
Always, always, always, give in those coupons after you safely return the car.
Otherwise leave it all on the cc.
Does he not have any insurance of his own?

Would they allow him to fix it himself? Take it to his own auto repair?

No.
What should he do?
What happenes if he don't pay? they charge the SPG card, right? so how about he cancels the card?
No way for such a poor youngster to pay $5,000.

Worst Case scenario: Did they send a breakdown of the charges? Bring it in to a Local car dealer and tell him to price it out and send them proof it doesn't cost that much.

Take it to a dealer to make sure they didn't overcharge on the paintbrush!

So if I have the AMEX Platinum Premium Protection for an extra $20 a rental, does this mean that I don't need my normal insurance? (I'm thinking of cancelling it, I travel all the time, and mainly rent cars, so there's really no reason to keep my origional insurance).

So if I don't have my normal car insurance, can I just pay the $20 per rental to amex and be fully covered? Assuming I'll be renting in Europe or the USA.

Bear in mind there's also third party liability insurance which the CC does not cover.
Otherwise yes and if you get the UA MPE then its free insurance and u get the same things as amex premium

If CDP and PC are used when I  reserve a rental car on hertz.com, is CDP (and/or PC) considered as coupons?????
