Topic Wiki

There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees) Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
 • Cadillac Escalade
 • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
 • Mercedes E class
 • Corvettes
 • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
 • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
 • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
 • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

Those that do NOT have a credit card insurance, here is an alternative: https://worldwideinsure.org.

Hocker, you seem to be an expert when it comes to car rentals. What do you say to this?
I posted it because I wanted to hear people's thoughts on it but meanwhile no one agreed/disagreed...
Good Observation!

1) I'd say the SPG (Amex). Just MHO...
2) You can add yourself as an additional on your wife's UA card.

If you're renting soon you can ask them to rush it to you and you'll have in 1-2 days.

Thanks

Only if they are on the contract (or allowed to operate the vehicle, via the CDP or spouses)

Why not any Chase card? As they offer primary insurance.

1 - Doesn't United Mileage Plus Explorer cover CDW in Israel nowadays?
2 - If yes, do you still need a letter?
3 - Does Sapphire Preferred Visa give CDW in Israel or only MasterCard?
4 - Does the authorized user get CDW coverage in Israel or only the Primary cardholder?
Thanks.
There's a stira between this and the wiki regarding United card in Israel. What's the truth?
ETA: I'm asking specifically about the United Explorer Mastercard

Rented in gva with csp, popped tire, they're charging 550. What's the procedure for csp to submit a claim? Anyone have experience? Was a 28 day rental, the second one in a row. Taking a third one now.

I have an interesting dilemna on my hands right now. Any help would be appreciated.
I rented a car via priceline using a BoA Visa card.
Then, when I got to the rental desk, I purchased liability insurance using a Visa Gift Card.
I ended up getting into an accident.
Now, Im being told that since the purchase of the insurance was not on a Visa card that has the Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver Benefit, I am not eligible.
In other words: although I rented the car on an eligible card, since I did not put ALL related expenses onto an eligible card - Im not covered.
I am having a hard time taking that since I didnt even have to buy liability if I chose not to... so just becuase I chose to buy liability not on an eligible card that makes me not eligible...?
What is the best CC to use for a rental in USA when you have your own car insurance as well?

I know some cover as primary and some do not?

Please post to the front page as well, as I think this is probably a common question.

Thank you!

SP and UMPE both offer primary insurance for no additional charge. amex charges $24.95 per rental for primary insurance and covers up to $100k
