That is too bad, we had an excellent and always available rav hamachshir with us, and the owners daughter was with us.

yes.  He spent maybe 2 to 4 hours a day in the kitchen (out of a possible 15). It was not completely his fault.  The owners of kosherica assigned him many additional duties which required him to be outside of the kitchen.  Nevertheless,  I saw him relaxing and playing on his ipad when we could have used another eye in the kitchen.
