A step? I guess you mean an inch or two.
The replay shows about a foot (ie a boot, not 12 in.) - no different than a handful of other VAR offsides in this tournament.
She miss hit it. No pace and no where near the back post. The goalie still had to make a simple save and bobble it at that.
It's not a miss unless it goes wide of goal - no different than shots vs shots on goal stats. Naeher only bobbled because she had to pull her hands in, otherwise it would've hit her in the chin. Was it a poor shot? Of course. But it was certainly better than an actual miss, since if Naeher guesses wrong it's a goal. Instead, she made the save she needed to make, and gets some credit for that.
You can put yourself back onside.
Rewatched, and I see what you mean. I knew I was missing something, since there was absolutely no talk of offside during the review.
One thing we can say for sure, this was not the dominant force many expected the US to be. Ultimately though, they did play just a little better, and it's not like the win was undeserved. Same could be said for both of their other knockout round games to be honest.
