You don't need to go through Steam client to use the software every time. Install YNAB and run via Steam for the first time, Then go to Help -> About YNAB -> Copy Activation Key to Clipboard. Download the trial version from YNAB site, and then enter the saved activation key. You will now have a standalone version.

Don't know about the op. However this product has been mentioned on ddf before, with many people being happy with it. Personally I've been on the fence, but now I'll probably buy it
