I agree it’s a good old boy network, but if that’s the finest case of racism you can find then the NFL is doing pretty swell. At the end of the day if someone you know is qualified for a job you’ll hire them over the qualified candidate that you don’t know. If you ran a private business you would hire your son if he was fully qualified. I do think that people outside the old boys network should get opportunities but it’s tough to figure out a good solution.

Your failure to understand racism roots boggles my mind. If you have a system that was based on racism and then you just keep picking from that system the result will be racism.

What premise did I make up? That coaches are predominantly former players? That is unquestionably true. (College level, not just NFL level)

The good old boy network has its roots in racism. The NFL has been a racist organization before you were born. The NFL has acknowledged the racism and put rules in place to try and fix it. It has still failed.

That is not what you said originally, and you meant NFL players, be honest. And if counting all football players it would look like the general population. So if you’re going to assert racism based on a false premise, prove it.

Just want to point out that 3 of the most controversial recent hirings were McVay, Shanahan, and Taylor. 3 of the final 4 coaches this year. Difficult to argue that they were not the correct choice despite any possible “old boy network” connections they had.

And yes that’s the same McVay that turned around a consistently terrible Rams team. McVay is the youngest head coach to qualify for the postseason, win a playoff game, appear in a Super Bowl, reach multiple Super Bowls, win a Super Bowl, and be named the AP NFL Coach of the Year.

I absolutely meant college, which is what I said in my next post, mentioning things off the top of my head I was remembering from conversations on this topic when the lawsuit was announced.
