Before the game they quoted Tua as saying it's an old back injury that caused that. I don't see how anyone would be sued if he went along with it and sold the back injury story pretty hard it seems.

He can say whatever he wants. I'm not buying that medical professionals are able to be swayed by a patient's opinion on what caused his reaction to an obviously concussive hit.

I going to guess they have strict concussion protocols that must be passed. I can't see Miami risking his career for a meaningless game.

The NFL has strict protocols, but IINM they are reliant on team doctors to generate the data on the injury, recovery, and status within the protocol. I believe the data is reviewed by the league if they feel it wasn't adhered to, and that review has resulted in teams being fined for failures in the protocol.

You know what is crazy. Lower back pain is a symptom of a concussion. Not common but not unheard of.

You know what is crazy. Lower back pain is a symptom of a concussion. Not common but not unheard of.

Lower back pain is also a symptom of playing tackle football in general, and being repeatedly slammed to the ground by 300+ lb monsters in particular. 

(Before we get any panties bunched up, "monsters" is not derogatory. Fletcher Cox is a monster, and I say that with great respect. )

Btw, the OK is the NFL is this analogy, and they absolutely will not allow anyone but themselves to investigate this. Furthermore, they will likely release some meaningless statement and hand out a paltry slap on the wrist fine and/or suspension, before resuming business as usual.

The NFL is absolutely going to investigate themselves. They have a long history of this. They were already "looking into it" before tonight's game

The NFL did not ok anyone to play. To say they are investigated themselves insinuates they are at fault. They hire outside investigators all the time.

Concussions and brain injuries are a humongous issue. They set up the protocols. The league is responsible to make sure the protocols are followed.

They are 100% at fault for allowing this to go on. This is not a new or unique situation. This has happened countless times. This is different because it's a high profile qb, and everyone watched him show very blatant signs of a concussion.

This was a very common talking point *before* the game. It's not like everyone is waking up now that he got his head slammed into the ground.

To add, iinm, to clear concussion protocols, the player is examined by a doctor who is *not* a team employee. I would assume that makes the doctor an nfl employee. So yes, the NFL doctors are the ones that clear him.
